Tourist Area

A Coronation Community
Association Proposal
"Toronto is a world-class city with
world-class traffic. Avoid the headaches and delays of the city
gridlock, stay in more comfortable and personal accommodation and
leave the driving up to the famous GO train. Go service leaves every
hour at 13 minutes past the hour from the Guildwood GO station.
Parking is free. I wish we could say as much for the
downtown."

The photo on the left is the Don Valley Parkway, the
main gateway into the downtown core of Toronto. The photo on
the right is of highway 2a, the easternmost gateway to
Toronto at West Hill. Can you see a difference?

The Coronation Community Association
would like to see a "Toronto Without Traffic" tourist area set up in
West Hill to attract tourists who would be visiting Toronto by car
but who are not interested in coping with Toronto's traffic. West
Hill has always been the Eastern Gateway to the City of Toronto and
is an interesting 20-minute GO train ride to the downtown core that
is an adventure in itself. With 15 motels catering to every budget
and many fine restaurants and tourist attractions. A rehabilitation
of this business district should be part of Toronto's current bid for
the 2015 World's Fair. It is a vitally important Project deserving,
and requiring, support from all levels of government.
Beyond the obvious attractions of the
downtown core, a Toronto Without Traffic tourist area would have some
pretty amazing things to offer tourists on its own: fabulous
restaurants such as Sisters, Santos, Fratellis, the Village Tea
Shoppe, The Friendly Greek, Bluffers Restaurant and that star of many
a motion picture and TV show, The Amazing Teds. Fine original art
galleries like Cedar Ridge and the Doris McLean gallery. Some of the
most beautiful and unspoiled parks in the city: Rouge Valley, The
towering Scarborough Bluffs, Bluffer's Park and the ten kilometre
paved walking trail through the Highland Creek Park Network. Not to
mention our beautiful beaches, the famous gardens at the Guild Inn, plenty of shopping and the Toronto
Zoo.
