Beautification of Eastview Park begings October 14, 2006
CCA Celebrates Toronto Parks and Trees Bulb Planting

The forecast was for rain and cold temperatures with wind gusts up to 90 km per hour, but the day turned out to be very pleasant with blue skies and moderate temperatures attracting hundreds of local residents. The Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation had donated thousands of bulbs to beautify West Hill Parks, like Eastview. Planting was done by volunters from the Scarborough Boys and Girls Club and East Scarborough Storefront.

After eating their way through hundreds of hotdogs and gallons of soft drinks, the younger children worked up a further appetite in the jumping castle

There was an opportunity to view a fire truck and a chance to meet the fire fighters from local station 234 along with viewing a police car from 43 Division

The ten booths on display allowed children to get balloons, have their faces painted, get their hands hennaed, learn about the environment, dance and even get their hair styled. Adults could visit the CCA, Residents Rising and the Ecology booth.

Mayoralty candidate Jane Pitfield also came out to enjoy the day and to talk about the Community with CCA President, Barry Fraser. Other politicians and candidates for the next election who attended included David Soknacki, Paul Ainslie (who was out at 9:30 am with his son to help plant bulbs), Ron Moeser and Abdul Patel.

The day was sponsored by many local businesses to whom we own many, many thanks. But a special appreciation goes out to Cheryl Gillis of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation (for the tables and the use of the Park), Honda (for the tents), Dip Habib and the volunteers from East Scarborough Storefront, the staff and volunteers from Scarborough Boys and Girls Club, Loblaws and No Frills (who supplied much of the food), Enbridge (who cooked the food for an endless line of hungry people)and Janine (who got the serving organized and showed us all how it was done) . Finally, thanks to Arthur Beauregard from Toronto Parks & Trees Foundation for the idea, the bulbs, and the invaluable guidance and assistance he provided throughout the entire project.

By two-thirty the barbeque was over, the CCA and other booths started to come down and clean up was begun. By three oclock our volunteers headed home to a well earned rest. Thanks to Lisa for all her advance planning, Ron and his wife, Bess, Ed, Jan, Elizabeth, Maria, Patti, Barry and Linda for volunteering their time and helping make the day such a success. And watch for those thousands of daffodils in the spring!

The CCA was launched on October 3rd, 2005 at a general meeting for the entire community and our Executive was selected on October 26th. Please consider becoming a member and helping us with our work in your community. Membership cost only $10 per household per year.BECOME A MEMBER
