New 43 Division Police Station

A SAFE COMMUNITY

Community Safety Committee Chair, Ron Wootton and CCA President Barry Fraser, join City Councilor Gay Cowbourne in welcoming 43 Division Superintendant Paul Gottschalk to his new post.

Although the Coronation Community is a low crime area, it is located in a city where crime is a problem. Ron and Barry are members of the Community Police Liason Committee at 43 Division giving them access to the highest levels of Policing in the area.

The Coronation Community Association has created and supports the Report All Crime (RAC) Initiative. 43 Division Police Officers can only be effective in reducing crime in our community if they are aware of the crimes that are taking place. If you are aware of a crime that is taking place phone 911 If you have become aware of a crime that has already taken place, phone 416- 808-2222

Police Station at 43 Division has implemented a Community Problems line (416) 808-4308. This line is for low priority items that you would like the police to look into. You call and leave a message and Police will get back to you with in 48 hours.

Police at 43 Divison are providing Child Car Seat Clinic. For installation or adjustment of Child Car Seats. Call Police Constable Sue Munday at (416) 808-4366 to make an appointment.

Several factors act to prevent people from Reporting All Crimes. The first is the belief that if a minor crime isn't reported at the time it was happening it is unlikely the police will catch the person responsible. Second is the belief that the police are so busy it would be a distraction to them to report crimes in which there is little likelhood of an apprehension or where little of value was taken. The third is the desire not to get caught up in a time consuming police investigation.

All three are false assumptions. Reporting All Crimes informs police about patterns of crime, times when crimes occur, where and when to assign police units to an area. If your garage has been broken into, for example, it is unlikely to be a stand alone crime and more likely to be the work of a small group targeting your neighbourhood. If police know crimes are taking place in a geographic area, this increases the likelihood of an arrest being made and you getting your property back. If police don't know crimes are taking place, you put your neighbours at risk. And reporting this type of crime usually takes little time and can often be handled with a simple phone call. It is not a distraction from police duties, it is the reason the force exists.
