Neighbours met for our first Community Clean Up Campaign
The day before it had been 21 degrees under brilliant sunshine. On Cleanup Day the temperature dropped to 7 degrees and the rain poured down relentlessly. Ed and Bess King supplied their RV as the CCA Flagship for the day.
Despite the miserable weather a dozen hearty souls came out to launch our first Community Cleanup Day. The RV proved its considerable weight in importance, allowing volunteers a place to relax between cleanups and enjoy a hot coffee and an escape from the rain.
Sopping wet, our new CCA Banner made its first public appearance, brightening our spirits. This banner can now be flown at all of our public events.
Before long teams of residents began returning with bags of garbage removed from the public areas around our district. All of the public enterances to our area were cleaned including Galloway, Poplar and Morningside at the train tracks, Kitchener Rd at Kingston, Galloway at Kingston and all of our public parks.
The pile of garbage beside the teacher's parking lot at Eastview School began to grow. City Councilor David Soknacki stopped by to applaud our efforts and promised to look into conditions along the train tracks that exceeded our efforts
By eleven o'clock all 40 bags alloted to us by the City had been filled. Cold, tired but exhilarated by the work they had done, our volunteers headed home to dry clothes and a well earned rest.
The CCA was launched on October 3rd, 2005 at a general meeting for the entire community and our Executive was selected on October 26th. Please consider becoming a member and helping us with our work in your community. Membership cost only $10 per household per year.BECOME A MEMBER
